Vegetable Container Size Guide
Find a starting pot-size range for common vegetables and herbs, with drainage and spacing considerations.
How to use this tool
Crop; number of plants; optional sun and location. Check the units and use measurements from the growing space or instructions for your actual crop or product.
What the result means
Suggested pot volume, approximate diameter/depth, drainage and support notes. The result follows the inputs you provide; it does not replace inspection of your plants or the relevant product label.
Worked example
Two tomato containers, each planned at 20–40 litres, represent 40–80 litres of growing medium. These broad editorial planning bands need adjusting for cultivar and container shape. Litres alone cannot determine both diameter and depth.
Assumptions and limitations
Variety and climate alter needs; these are recommended ranges, not exact minimum guarantees. The selection is a small, cautious editorial dataset, not an exhaustive list of all crops or cultivars.
