Mulch Calculator for Garden Beds
Calculate a garden bed or border’s required mulch volume from measured area and intended depth.
How to use this tool
Area in m² or length×width; layer depth in cm; bag size. Check the units and use measurements from the growing space or instructions for your actual crop or product.
What the result means
Litres, cubic metres and approximate mulch bags. The result follows the inputs you provide; it does not replace inspection of your plants or the relevant product label.
Worked example
Six square metres at 5 cm depth requires 300 litres, or 0.3 m³. With 50-litre bags, the estimate is six bags. The depth is an input example, not a recommendation for every plant and material.
Assumptions and limitations
Keep mulch away from stems; depth depends on material and plant needs. This tool uses explicit arithmetic and your inputs; it does not connect to weather, location, product or soil databases.
litres = area_m² × depth_cm × 10.
